Mrs. Sharkey's Library students had a spirited discussion with Professor Rebecca Tarvin of UC Berkeley via Zoom videoconference. Professor Tarvin is an expert on POISON FROGS.   If you'd like to learn how poison frogs don't poison themselves, check out the Professor's website!

  One of our very OWN, Kristina Arvelo (class of 2015), participated in the NYC Mayor's Cup yesterday evening at St. Francis College. The Mayor's Cup features the best of the best high school basketball players from the five boroughs, from both the PSAL (public) and CHSAA (parochial) leagues. Kristina led the PSAL in scoring with 11 points and 5 assists. 8 of those points and 3 of those assists were in the fourth quarter. As part of the school's commemoration of Women's History Month, our Middle School students are participating in two noteworthy charitable projects.  The first is the "Wands for Wildlife" project, which encourages the donation of used mascara wands, which can be recycled into useful tools in saving endangered animals.  The second is the "Equity, Period." project, which is a drive for sanitary napkins for those in need.

Lincoln Center Performing Arts, as part of the Jazz for Young People series, played an engaging set of pieces from the Harlem Renaissance for our OWN 7th graders, which led to some animated discussions.  Amazing musicianship on display!

Mr. Hays, our Mandarin Teacher, and Ms. Rivard, our Spanish Teacher, celebrated the Chinese New Year by making nearly 300 steamed dumplings with their students. Along the way, they experienced the richness of the cultural traditions surrounding this holiday. We wish everyone a joyful Year of the Pig!
