Black History Month: Bombazo Afro-Puerto Rican Dance
Our Middle School's Black History Month assembly featured the Bombazo Dance Company. Their presentation and performance were engaging, informative, and fun. They had the entire school up on their feet dancing and learning about the African influence in Puerto Rico.
Bomba is both a traditional dance and musical style of Puerto Rico. Its origins are rooted in the island's history of African slavery but today has evolved into a community expression of Afro-Puerto Rican culture.
“We have a responsibility to pass on our heritage to the younger generation so that our heritage can live on.” (Milteri Tucker: Founder, director, educator, and choreographer)
