Welcome to Our World Neighborhood Charter School - OWNCS

As a diverse community of learners, we honor our multicultural student body, staff, and families. OWNCS’ curriculum is as varied as its community; our educational philosophy is based on inquiry, active and experiential learning, and social justice.

Since our founding in 2002, our enrollment has grown to more than 700 students, and has developed into an exceptional place for learning and achieving. In 2007 and most recently in 2012, OWNCS’  charter was unconditionally renewed for five years by SUNY Charter Schools Institute. This renewal confirmed the school’s attainment of its goal to help all students achieve academic and social success.

Our standards-based instruction is embedded in a supportive collaborative environment. In addition to daily instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, there is a strong emphasis on ethical and moral development based on OWNCS’ Pillars of a Positive Community. Spanish language classes begin in Kindergarten and Mandarin is offered in Middle School. Physical Education, Music, Art, and Film are also considered essential components of OWNCS’ learning experience. We believe that the processes of thinking and exploration are as important as finding the “correct” answers and we look forward to demonstrating our inquiry-based style of instruction to visitors.

Let me encourage you to visit our school during one of our Open Houses (call for dates and times). Through an on-site visit, you can observe our mission and philosophy in action.

We continue to reach out to our immediate community members and others for support in the growth and success of our students and school.
