Mr. Glenn Roth (Special Education, OWN1 MS) was recently interviewed by The Daily Eagle and QNS.com.  A lifelong baseball fanatic, Mr. Roth organized a tribute to the great Jackie Robinson, including a talk by Ivo Philbert of the Jackie Robinson Foundation, a musical performance by the OWN Glee Club, as well as a spoken recitation of a famous Robinson speech by our students. The 2018-2019 CSAA Region 1 Champions!Congratulations to the 2018-2019 CSAA Region 1 Champions! We join our Athletic Director Mr. Brown, and our dedicated coaches, Mr. Reid and Mr. Hughes, in celebrating the Coed Soccer Team's unbeaten record this season (10-0!).  An amazing accomplishment to cap a season of hard work and unrelenting effort.  Go Falcons!

Mr. Kofi Addo-Nkum, author of "The Hunter and the Eaglet: a Ghanaian folktale retold," regaled our students with an inspiring story of hope and compassion during his visit to OWN2, Howard Beach.  Our students were enriched by this deep exploration of Ghanaian culture -- from a knowledgeable and engaging source!

Assemblyman Brian Barnwell and Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas attend OWN's annual Multicultural Festival. The yearly celebration culminates with OWN students, OWN parents, and OWN staff celebrating and appreciating the diversity of over 70 countries represented in the school.

Mrs. Sharkey's Library students had a spirited discussion with Professor Rebecca Tarvin of UC Berkeley via Zoom videoconference. Professor Tarvin is an expert on POISON FROGS.   If you'd like to learn how poison frogs don't poison themselves, check out the Professor's website!

  One of our very OWN, Kristina Arvelo (class of 2015), participated in the NYC Mayor's Cup yesterday evening at St. Francis College. The Mayor's Cup features the best of the best high school basketball players from the five boroughs, from both the PSAL (public) and CHSAA (parochial) leagues. Kristina led the PSAL in scoring with 11 points and 5 assists. 8 of those points and 3 of those assists were in the fourth quarter.
