Athletics

Athletics at OWNCS builds community through the engagement of students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni. Athletic participation helps our students grow, learn, and have fun while they use and develop their personal, physical, and intellectual skills. Our student-athletes learn the pursuit of excellence through teamwork, the practice of ethical and responsible behavior on and off the field, and the development of leadership and sportsmanship skills. These lessons help instill habits which will lead our students to better and healthier lives.

Preparation for team sports begins in Elementary School, where Physical Education classes include teaching sport-based skills. Team sport competition is introduced in the 5th grade for basketball, soccer, and flag football, and in 6th grade for all of the sports we offer.

OWNCS offers 7 team sports. Each team has 2 coaches, supplemented by parent volunteers. All coaches are AED/CPR/first aid and concussion protocol certified. Middle School teams practice after school for 2 hours twice per week. Competitions are held after the academic day and on the weekends depending on the sport. OWNCS has been fortunate to enjoy successes for teams and individuals over the past 15 years. Many of our graduates go on to play at the high school junior varsity and varsity levels and even the collegiate level.
